WhatsApp has introduced a guest calling feature, enabling users to invite people without a WhatsApp account to join voice and video calls. Guests can join a call of up to 32 participants through a shared link on a computer browser without needing to register or install the app. This feature positions the Meta-owned service to better compete with platforms like Zoom and Google Meet.

To maintain security and host control, guests cannot initiate calls and must be approved by the host from a virtual waiting room. Guest permissions are limited; they cannot see participants' phone numbers, send messages, or add others to the call. The company also announced plans to roll out plugins for Google and Outlook calendars later this year, allowing users to create and add WhatsApp call links directly to event invitations.
