Eli Lilly said post-hoc analyses of its ATTAIN-1 trial found that its oral GLP-1 drug Foundayo (orforglipron) was associated with lower predicted long-term risks of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The trial involved adults with obesity or overweight.
Published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, the analysis used modeling to estimate 10-year health risks. Compared with placebo, the highest dose of Foundayo was associated with a predicted 57% reduction in type 2 diabetes risk.
The same dose was associated with a predicted 18% reduction in cardiovascular disease risk compared with placebo.
The findings add to Foundayo’s potential profile as a once-daily pill in a market dominated by injectable treatments. They are based on risk modeling, not a dedicated outcomes trial, and suggest potential cardiometabolic benefits beyond weight loss.
