IQVIA data shows a downturn in weekly U.S. prescriptions for new oral obesity drugs from Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. Prescriptions for Lilly's Foundayo fell 9.9% to 57,920 in its 26th week on the market.
Competitor Novo Nordisk also saw a decline. Prescriptions for its oral Wegovy decreased by 1.4% to approximately 179,500.
The dip in oral medication prescriptions reflected a broader trend. Most major GLP-1 drugs, both injectable and oral, saw a similar decrease during the same week.
The oral GLP-1 market is a key growth area for both pharmaceutical giants. Analysts closely track the launch trajectories of these new pill-based therapies as they compete with well-established injectable treatments.
