Eli Lilly reported positive results from a Phase 2b trial of EloraTZP, an investigational combination of eloralintide and tirzepatide. The trial enrolled 367 adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes.
After 48 weeks, participants taking the highest dose of EloraTZP lost an average of 23.3% of their body weight, or 54.1 pounds. Those taking tirzepatide alone lost an average of 14.8%, or 34.4 pounds. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Lilly’s Zepbound and Mounjaro.
EloraTZP reduced A1C levels by an average of 2.9 percentage points. Tirzepatide alone reduced A1C by an average of 2.4 percentage points.
The combination was associated with higher rates of gastrointestinal side effects and trial discontinuations than tirzepatide alone. Lilly plans to advance EloraTZP to Phase 3 trials by the end of 2026.
