Eli Lilly launched its oral weight-loss and type 2 diabetes pill, Foundayo, in the United Kingdom on Monday. The UK is the first European country to offer the treatment. The drug is known chemically as orforglipron.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorized the drug on August 10. Foundayo provides a once-daily GLP-1 tablet alternative to injectable treatments such as Mounjaro and Wegovy.
The pill is currently available only through private prescriptions. Eli Lilly is working with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for potential National Health Service (NHS) coverage.
