Eli Lilly CEO Dave Ricks announced that 700,000 seniors have started GLP-1 obesity treatments since Medicare began covering the drugs in July 2026. The company has captured a commanding 70% of these new patients, giving it a significant lead in this new market segment.
The rapid uptake comes through a temporary Medicare "Bridge" program that allows eligible seniors to access the medications for a $50 monthly co-pay. The strong start for Lilly's portfolio, which includes the injectable Zepbound and oral drug Foundayo, demonstrates the high demand among the 66 million Americans covered by Medicare.
