Lumentum Holdings demonstrated a new eight-wavelength laser module at the ECOC 2026 conference in Spain. The External Laser Small Form Factor Pluggable (ELSFP) module is designed for advanced co-packaged and near-packaged optics (CPO and NPO) architectures.
The technology addresses the rising bandwidth and power density demands of next-generation AI systems. By separating the laser from primary compute hardware, the design improves thermal management. This modular approach also allows for easier servicing within large-scale AI infrastructure.
Lumentum expects the new module to be available in the first half of 2027.
