Centrus Energy has begun shipping the first newly manufactured centrifuges from its factory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to its uranium enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio. The shipment arrived ahead of the year-end target, linking the company’s Tennessee manufacturing operations with its Ohio enrichment site and advancing a multi-billion-dollar effort to rebuild the U.S. domestic nuclear fuel supply chain.
The expansion is designed to increase production of High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) for next-generation reactors and Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) for the existing commercial fleet. The centrifuges will be assembled into cascades, with the first new enrichment capacity expected to be operational in 2029. The project relies on an exclusively domestic supply chain and is intended to serve commercial and national security needs.
