Two contractor employees died on September 3 at Kinross Gold's Bald Mountain mine in Nevada. The workers, employed by TJS Welding, were involved in separate accidents at the surface gold mine.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) released preliminary reports on the incidents. Brandon D. Wheatley was fatally struck by a pipe that slipped from a jack. Newt B. Wakefield was struck by a truck-bed liner after rigging broke. Wakefield died from his injuries on September 18.
Kinross Gold confirmed the fatalities in its quarterly results. The company conducted safety stand-downs following the incidents. MSHA continues to investigate both accidents.
