JPMorgan Chase invested $5 billion in equity in companies critical to U.S. national and economic security. The investment marks the first anniversary of the bank’s Security and Resiliency Initiative, a 10-year, $1.5 trillion effort. The $5 billion represents half of the $10 billion JPMorgan plans to invest directly in equity stakes. The bank also said it has financed and facilitated more than $230 billion for related projects.
The investments are intended to strengthen domestic supply chains, manufacturing and technology. So far, they have backed companies in next-generation defense, automated manufacturing, battery storage and critical minerals. The investments support industrial and technological capabilities the bank considers vital to the nation’s long-term resilience.
