Johnson & Johnson announced positive topline results from a pivotal Phase 3 trial for its drug CAPLYTA® (lumateperone). The trial evaluated CAPLYTA in treating manic episodes in adults with bipolar I disorder. The study met its primary endpoint, demonstrating a statistically significant and rapid reduction in mania symptoms compared to a placebo after three weeks.

Significant improvements emerged as early as the third day of treatment. These improvements sustained throughout the study. CAPLYTA already holds approval for treating depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder. These results represent the first from two key studies. A potential approval for mania would position CAPLYTA as a single treatment option for both manic and depressive episodes. This addresses a significant need in a market affecting an estimated 37 million people globally.
