Johnson & Johnson is selling its Laminar left atrial appendage (LAA) closure device assets to Jaguar LAA. Jaguar LAA is a new entity formed by investment firm Santé Ventures and former Laminar management.

The sale price remains undisclosed. J&J originally acquired the Laminar technology for $400 million less than three years ago.

The divestment follows the mid-2025 suspension of a pivotal U.S. clinical trial. This study launched in early 2024 to evaluate the device’s ability to reduce stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation.

J&J stated the move aligns with a strategy to focus resources on high-impact portfolio areas. The technology was designed to compete with existing devices from Boston Scientific and Abbott.
