Johnson & Johnson reported positive topline results from a pivotal Phase 3 study of CAPLYTA (lumateperone). The trial evaluated the drug for treating manic episodes in adults with bipolar I disorder. CAPLYTA met its primary endpoint, showing a statistically significant reduction in mania symptoms versus a placebo by week three. Improvements in symptoms were noticeable as early as day three. Patients also showed greater improvement in the overall severity of their illness. The drug was well-tolerated with a safety profile consistent with previous studies. This is the first of two key Phase 3 studies for this indication. Results from a second study are currently being analyzed for potential regulatory submissions to expand the drug's approved uses.
