Takeda announced that ORZEYFUL (oveporexton), its first-in-class oral orexin receptor 2 (OX2R) agonist, is now commercially available in Japan and China to treat narcolepsy type 1 (NT1). The medicine is designed to address the underlying orexin deficiency that causes the chronic neurological condition. Takeda scientists in Japan discovered the drug.

The launch marks a commercial milestone for Takeda’s orexin franchise, which is exploring treatments for sleep-wake disorders. Takeda expects ORZEYFUL to launch in the United States next month, pending completion of scheduling by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Submissions to other health authorities around the world are also underway.
