Intuitive Surgical is expanding its Asia Pacific footprint with a new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia.
The company will invest approximately $500 million (RM2 billion) over the next five years. This project represents Intuitive’s first manufacturing site in Southeast Asia and its second across Asia.
The 316,000-square-foot facility will occupy the Bandar Cassia Technology Park. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2028.
The plant will manufacture surgical instruments and devices for the da Vinci robotic surgery systems. Intuitive expects the facility to create 1,200 highly skilled jobs by 2032. This expansion aims to meet increasing regional demand for robotic-assisted surgery products.
