CDC Data Centres, backed by Infratil, and AI infrastructure firm Firmus Technologies have mutually terminated their Southgate partnership in Australia. The project was planned to deliver up to 1.6 gigawatts of data center capacity and had a potential value of AU$73 billion. The companies ended the partnership about a year after announcing it.

The collaboration, which also involved Nvidia, aimed to build a series of AI factories by 2028. The partners deployed about 42 megawatts of capacity before the partnership ended. The decision appears to reflect a shift in Firmus’s strategy toward developing its own data centers.

Firmus also cancelled its planned IPO on the Australian Securities Exchange, citing a lack of investor demand. Infratil owns a 49.7% stake in CDC. The termination marks a major change to CDC’s planned expansion in the AI infrastructure sector.
