IBM and its subsidiary Red Hat launched Lightwell, a platform designed to automate vulnerability remediation in open source software. The Lightwell Network offering provides a catalog of more than 6,500 remediated software dependencies. A second service, Lightwell Clearinghouse Premier, coordinates security patch embargoes for the financial sector.

This initiative fulfills a $5 billion commitment to open source security announced in May 2026. A team of over 20,000 engineers supports the project. The platform utilizes a generative AI-powered engine to identify and resolve software vulnerabilities.

IBM also introduced new compact z17 and LinuxONE 5 systems. These models include rack-mount options for the first time to improve data center efficiency.
