IBM has been selected for Stage C, the third and final phase of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Quantum Benchmarking Initiative. Independent experts will test and evaluate IBM’s quantum hardware and overall architecture in this phase.

DARPA’s program aims to determine whether an industrially useful, fault-tolerant quantum computer can be built by 2033. IBM’s move to hardware testing marks a significant validation of its technical roadmap and progress in the competitive quantum computing field.

The selection aligns with IBM’s timeline: the company expects to deliver its first fault-tolerant quantum system in 2029. Its progression through DARPA’s review process adds credibility to its long-term quantum strategy.
