SK Hynix is upgrading its Dalian plant in China to produce 240-layer NAND flash memory chips, up from its current 192-layer technology. The move is intended to help the company defend market share against Chinese rivals, including Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. (YMTC).

The company also aims to meet growing global demand for high-performance memory, particularly for AI applications. The upgrade comes as SK Hynix and other South Korean chipmakers navigate U.S. export controls on chip-making equipment in China.

In South Korean trading on October 21, 2026, SK Hynix shares rose 5.81%.
