HP Inc. and Huawei signed a multi-year, global patent cross-licensing agreement. The deal grants HP access to Huawei’s standard-essential Wi-Fi patents, including the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. Huawei also gains access to specific HP patents under the reciprocal arrangement.
Both companies kept the financial terms of the agreement undisclosed. The deal marks a rare instance of a major U.S. firm licensing core technology from Huawei. The Chinese giant has remained on a U.S. trade blacklist since 2019.
This partnership highlights the necessity of Huawei’s patent portfolio in global communication standards. HP described the agreement as a routine industry license. The company clarified that the deal does not signal a broader commercial relationship.
