HP, Asus, and Acer have integrated DRAM memory chips from China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) into laptops for non-US markets. This marks the first time these major brands have included a Chinese DRAM supplier in their global supply chains.

A persistent global memory shortage drove the decision by increasing costs and tightening supply. Traditional leaders Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology are currently prioritizing production capacity for high-demand AI components.

Initial shipment volumes from CXMT remain small. HP and Dell are qualifying these components to safeguard against future price hikes and scarcity.
