Hudbay Minerals and partner Mitsubishi announced a final investment decision to proceed with construction and development of the Copper World project in Arizona. Production is expected to begin in the second half of 2029.

The feasibility study forecasts annual production of 102,000 metric tons of copper during the first 10 years. That is an 11% increase from previous estimates. The project is expected to nearly double Hudbay’s consolidated annual copper production to approximately 250,000 tons.

Copper World is expected to have a 15-year mine life. The study estimates an after-tax net present value of $1.2 billion, based on a long-term copper price of $5.00 per pound.
