Goldman Sachs’s board has reportedly discussed a succession plan that would name President and Chief Operating Officer John Waldron as the bank’s next CEO. Under the proposal, current CEO David Solomon would step down around the end of 2027 or in 2028. Solomon has led the bank since 2018.
After leaving the CEO role, Solomon would likely remain executive chairman for one to two years to support a stable handover. The plan requires board approval, and the timeline could change.
A bank spokesperson said the board regularly discusses succession but has not set a definitive timeline. The spokesperson described reports about the timing as speculative.
