Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has blocked Grab Holdings’ proposed $600 million acquisition of Delivery Hero’s Foodpanda business in Taiwan. The commission said the potential harm to competition outweighed the deal’s overall economic benefits.
The FTC found that Grab’s proposed commitments did not adequately address concerns that the deal would give the company a dominant market position.
The decision follows the FTC’s late-2024 block of Uber Eats’ proposed acquisition of Foodpanda on similar antitrust grounds. The commission extended its review of Grab’s deal and scrutinized Uber’s minority stake in Grab, as well as the potential for reduced competition.
