Google completed a talent acquisition of San Francisco-based AI startup Mechanize Inc. The deal carries a reported valuation of more than $1.5 billion. Mechanize co-founder and former CEO Tamay Besiroglu will join Google’s AI division alongside his team.
The acquisition follows a talent deal structure similar to Google’s previous arrangement with Windsurf. Mechanize develops technology designed to improve AI performance on complex coding tasks. Employees signaled the move by updating LinkedIn profiles to reflect new roles at Google.
Google aims to bolster its capabilities in agentic coding through this integration. The move targets increased competition against rivals including Microsoft and OpenAI.
