Planned and active data center investments in Finland have surpassed €67 billion, positioning the country as a major European hub for AI infrastructure. The boom is fueled by rising demand for AI computing power, a cool climate that can lower cooling costs, and access to renewable energy, including nuclear and wind power.
Alphabet’s Google has committed €13 billion ($15.1 billion) to digital infrastructure in Finland over the next two years, its largest single investment in Europe. Microsoft has also signed agreements to acquire land for potential data center development.
The investments are expected to boost Finland’s GDP and create thousands of jobs. Their rapid expansion has also prompted public debate and regulatory scrutiny over environmental impacts and energy use.
