Anthropic has signed its first content licensing agreement with a digital news publisher, the Associated Press (AP). The deal was struck just before the U.S. midterm elections and marks a shift for Anthropic, which had not previously entered paid content partnerships with publishers for its Claude AI model. The financial terms and duration were not disclosed.
The agreement allows Claude to access and surface timely AP information, including real-time election data.
AI companies have increasingly licensed news content to improve their models and address copyright concerns. Anthropic rival OpenAI has struck more than a dozen licensing deals with major publishers. The AP has also previously licensed its content to Google and OpenAI.
