Alphabet's Google announced a $17 billion long-term investment to build its first data center campus in Laramie County, Wyoming. The project is being developed with several energy companies to support growing demand for Google's AI and cloud services. It is expected to support more than 8,800 jobs in Wyoming during construction.

The announcement comes as technology stocks face a sharp sell-off amid concerns about potential data center construction restrictions in other states. The Wyoming campus will use air-cooling to reduce water use. It will be partly powered by a 702-megawatt fuel cell development that includes carbon capture and storage technology.

Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026. Initial operations are targeted for the second half of 2028. Full completion is expected by 2031.
