GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen called his initial investment in the company a “mistake” on October 15, 2026. Speaking at the Silvia Investor Summit in New York, he said he had not planned to take a leadership role and was pushed into an all-or-nothing position, prepared to “go down with the ship.”
Cohen began his involvement with GameStop as an activist investor, later joining the board and becoming CEO. He said that path was not what he had envisioned when he first invested in the company.
His remarks add a new perspective on his involvement in GameStop and could affect how the company’s loyal retail investor base views his role.
