Fluence Energy said it has been awarded a contract by Swedish utility Vattenfall to develop a battery storage facility in Brunsbüttel, Germany. The facility will have 254 MW of power capacity and 1 GWh of storage capacity. It will be built on the site of a decommissioned nuclear power plant and is expected to be among Germany’s largest battery projects. It is Vattenfall’s largest battery project to date.

The facility is expected to become operational by the end of 2028 and will use Fluence’s Gridstack Pro 5000 platform. Fluence’s contract covers engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and long-term service support.
