Figma Chief Financial Officer Praveer Melwani said the company is prepared to accept lower profit margins to drive demand for its artificial intelligence features. The strategy is intended to expand its user base and help it compete with advanced tools from AI labs such as OpenAI.

Speaking at a conference, Melwani said he was unsure whether Figma would return to its historical peak gross margins. Those margins have fallen from more than 90% to the mid-80% range amid heavy AI investment.

Figma believes accepting lower margins now to encourage broader AI adoption could create opportunities to raise prices later.
