KDDI, NTT DOCOMO, SoftBank, and Rakuten Mobile signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly study 5G millimeter-wave expansion. This partnership aims to accelerate coverage across Japan by addressing technical limitations that hinder individual deployment.
The group will evaluate sharing base stations and infrastructure to overcome signal attenuation and physical obstructions. While the carriers will maintain independent rollouts, they intend to pool resources to improve efficiency.
This collaboration seeks to deliver high-speed, high-capacity 5G to consumers more rapidly. The initiative may provide a global model for overcoming infrastructure challenges in the telecommunications sector.
