Google Limits Free Gemini to Flash-Lite, Pushes Users Toward Paid Plans

Google is limiting access to its more powerful Gemini models. Under the new policy, free personal accounts will be restricted to Flash-Lite and lose access to Gemini Flash and Gemini Pro. Google AI Plus subscribers will also lose access to Gemini Pro.

The change is intended to steer more users toward Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, which will retain access to all models. It follows the recent launch of Google’s frontier model, Gemini 4 Argon, and signals a push to monetize the company’s most advanced AI technology as it competes with subscription-based services.
