ETHA Jumps 9% on White House Crypto Summit and Fed Minutes Day — Is BlackRock's Ethereum ETF Becoming the Market's Favorite Risk-On Bet, or Is This a Sugar High?

Shares of the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF rocketed 9.1% to $15.76 on a day when two potentially market-moving events collided: a White House crypto summit and the release of the Federal Reserve's July meeting minutes. The rally dwarfs Ethereum's own modest climb near $1,917, raising the question of whether ETHA is absorbing outsized institutional demand — or simply mispricing risk ahead of uncertain headlines.

BlackRock's Fund Is Swallowing Most of the Money Flowing Into Ethereum ETFs

U.S. spot Ether ETFs recorded roughly $71.4 million in net inflows on August 18 — the fourth consecutive day of positive flows — and BlackRock's ETHA captured $64.7 million, representing over 90% of the total. That dominance helps explain why ETHA is moving faster than the underlying coin: when nearly all new institutional money funnels into a single product, the ETF's market price can temporarily overshoot the asset it tracks. Over the past month, however, ETHA has actually seen roughly $305 million in net outflows , so today's buying may be a sharp reversal rather than a durable trend.

The White House Is Selling Optimism, but Congress Hasn't Delivered the Law

The White House summit on August 19 features Trump, SEC Chair Atkins, and CFTC Chair Selig , with executives from Coinbase, a16z, Ripple, and Chainlink among those expected. The lobby push centers on the CLARITY Act, which would define which crypto tokens the SEC versus the CFTC regulates. But Polymarket contracts show only a roughly 19% probability the bill becomes law by year-end, down from 82% in February. For shareholders, the summit boosts sentiment but carries no binding policy outcome.

Fed Minutes Could Flip the Script by Afternoon

The Fed will release the minutes of its July 28–29 meeting today at 2:00 p.m.

That meeting produced a contentious 9–3 vote to hold rates at 3.50%–3.75% , with the committee noting "elevated uncertainty" from Middle East conflict. If the minutes reveal a majority leaning toward cuts, risk assets like ETHA could extend gains. A hawkish tone would do the opposite — and fast.

A Reverse Split Looms, Complicating the Picture

On August 4, iShares filed for a reverse stock split in ETHA, to take effect after trading closes on October 5.

The fund has posted a total return of roughly −60.5% over the past year and an annualized −26% since inception — context that should temper any single-day euphoria.
