Shares of Enovix Corp surged 10.2% to $2.77 after the silicon-battery maker disclosed preliminary third-quarter revenue that cleared both its own guidance and Wall Street expectations — a rare bright spot for a company whose stock has lost the vast majority of its value from its 2021 highs. Enovix Tops Revenue Targets as Drone and Defense Orders Surge, but Can $11 Million in Sales Justify a Half-Billion-Dollar Valuation?
Shares of Enovix jumped 10.2% to $2.77 after the silicon-battery startup posted preliminary third-quarter revenue that blew past both its own guidance and analyst forecasts — a welcome jolt for a stock that has shed roughly two-thirds of its market value in the past year.
• The Beat Was Decisive, but the Numbers Are Still Small. Preliminary, unaudited Q3 revenue came in at $11.0 million, up 38% year-over-year, beating the company's $9–$10 million guidance.
That also topped the $9.49 million consensus estimate.
It marked the sixth consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue growth. Yet at roughly $540 million in market capitalization, investors are pricing the company at a steep premium relative to its current sales. The stock trades at about 15× trailing twelve-month revenue — a valuation that demands dramatic scaling, not just incremental beats.
• Drones and Defense Are Now the Backbone. Drone and defense customers accounted for approximately 70% of third-quarter revenue.
The combined drone, defense, and industrial pipeline expanded 18% to $216 million, while the drone-specific pipeline surged 48% to nearly $150 million. This is significant because the growth is being fueled by a geopolitical shift: Western militaries and drone makers are seeking assured, non-Chinese battery sourcing that complies with U.S. defense procurement rules — a structural demand driver Enovix is positioning to capture.
• The Cash Burn Still Looms Large. Despite the revenue growth, Enovix continued to report operating losses — roughly $39.3 million on a GAAP basis for the quarter.
Cash stood at approximately $512 million , providing a cushion but burning at a rate that gives the company roughly four years of runway at current levels. Management is investing $19 million to double production capacity at its Korean facility , a bet that defense volume will keep accelerating.
• The Smartphone Dream Remains Unproven. The company's flagship smartphone battery use case is still gated by a final qualification test, meaning the biggest potential revenue source remains pre-revenue.
Interim CEO Ryan Benton noted that early Q4 shipments have already exceeded total Q3 revenue , a promising signal. But until a consumer electronics contract materializes, Enovix is essentially a niche defense battery supplier — growing quickly, but from a very small base. Full Q3 results are expected around November 12.
