Enbridge reported that a natural gas liquids leak from its Line 5 pipeline in northern Wisconsin in August is estimated to cost at least $15.1 million, according to a filing with federal regulators. Nearly $9.9 million is attributed to the emergency response. Another $5 million is allocated for property damage and repairs. The remainder covers environmental remediation and the value of the lost product.

The leak released more than 1.3 million gallons of natural gas liquids, intensifying the ongoing dispute over the pipeline. The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and various environmental groups are using the incident to press for stronger government action against Enbridge. The company is already facing legal challenges and has been found to be trespassing on tribal land.
