China opened the 134.2-kilometer Pinglu Canal for navigation on September 16, 2026. This waterway connects the Xijiang River system directly to the Beibu Gulf.
The new route shortens inland shipping distances by more than 560 kilometers. This development enhances transport links between southwestern China and ASEAN markets.
Annual logistics savings are projected to exceed 5 billion yuan ($745 million). The canal supports vessels up to 5,000 deadweight tons.
