The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) is investigating Carrefour and other supermarket chains over allegations of price discrepancies. The probe targets retailers for charging higher prices at the till than those displayed on shelves or in advertisements.

The investigation also covers misleading promotions where prices are allegedly inflated before discounts are applied. The CAK expanded its inquiry to include multiple chains following a specific customer complaint at a different supermarket.

Under the Competition Act, companies found guilty of anti-competitive conduct face fines of up to 10% of their annual turnover. While some executives cite human error for the discrepancies, the CAK may order compensation or take legal action to ensure consumer protection.
