DoorDash has retracted its support for a Republican bill in Congress that aimed to limit Washington, D.C.'s authority to set its own tax laws. The reversal follows significant backlash from D.C. officials and widespread calls from local residents to boycott the food delivery service.
The company's initial support for the bill was a response to a new 20-cent fee on third-party deliveries imposed by the D.C. Council. While DoorDash has now stated that working with local leaders is the correct approach, it still hopes for changes to the delivery fee which took effect on October 1.
