Chevron and other foreign oil producers are racing to migrate joint venture contracts with Venezuela’s state-run PDVSA.
Companies must finalize these agreements under a new legal framework by the July 28 government deadline. Negotiations center on a reformed hydrocarbons law approved in January to attract fresh investment.
The new model offers foreign partners increased operational autonomy and a revised taxation structure. Approximately two dozen companies are currently involved in the Caracas-based negotiations.
Successful contract migration allows Chevron to solidify its position and expand domestic oil and gas production.
