Production at Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak oil and gas field fell by more than 25%. Daily output previously averaged 34,000 metric tons. Production levels dropped to 25,000 metric tons following the disruption.

A drone attack on the Orenburg processing plant in Russia triggered the reduction. The Orenburg facility handles gas from Karachaganak, which is one of the world’s largest gas condensate fields.

Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) manages the project. Chevron holds an 18% stake in the KPO consortium. Shell maintains a 29.25% interest in the venture. Eni also holds a 29.25% stake. Lukoil holds a 13.5% interest. State-owned KazMunayGaz owns the remaining 10%.

The incident underscores operational risks for Western energy firms linked to the Ukraine conflict.
