Stablecoin issuer Circle plans to expand into approximately 40 emerging and developing countries to meet growing demand for digital dollars.

CEO Jeremy Allaire announced the plan at the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok. He said the blockchain industry is at an “inflection point” and entering a mainstream scaling phase.

The target regions include Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Circle’s expansion is backed by a recent agreement to acquire payments firm Tazapay for $400 million and a $100 million strategic investment from cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

The move aims to strengthen USDC’s position in the global payments business. USDC circulation grew 19% year over year in the second quarter of 2026. It reached $73.3 billion during the quarter.
