A non-binding framework between the United States and South Korea could create new opportunities for Cameco. It anticipates a $120 billion investment from South Korea to support construction of up to eight new U.S. reactors. Six would be Westinghouse AP1000 models.
Cameco owns 49% of Westinghouse Electric Company and could benefit if the reactors are built. Their construction would drive demand for Cameco’s nuclear fuel and services, aligning with the company’s strategy of investing across the nuclear fuel cycle.
Cameco shares were volatile following the announcement as investors weighed the long-term potential against recent softer quarterly results.
