BHP Group reported copper production of 400,700 tonnes in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. Output fell 19% year over year, mainly because of planned lower ore grades at its Escondida and Spence mines in Chile, scheduled maintenance and operational disruptions.

The disruptions included severe weather, a temporary pause in operations at Escondida following a fatality, and a conveyor belt failure at Carrapateena in Australia.

Iron ore production rose 4%. BHP’s Western Australia operations set new mine and port records despite maintenance activities.

BHP reaffirmed its full-year production and cost guidance for all commodities, signaling an expected recovery and stronger performance in the coming quarters.
