BHP Group will invest more than $10 billion into its Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) operations. The company plans to deploy this capital through fiscal year 2028. This expenditure aims to increase production capacity to 305 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
The strategy focuses on upgrading port and rail infrastructure while developing high-quality ore resources. These high-return projects are intended to sustain output for key markets such as China.
The announcement coincides with a wage dispute at the Port Hedland export hub. Unions involved in the conflict are now seeking arbitration.
