During the second quarter, Bank of America hired 1,000 contractors to help patch software vulnerabilities exposed by advanced artificial intelligence models, including Anthropic’s Mythos. The contractors are supporting 3,000 of the bank’s employees already working on the issue. CEO Brian Moynihan said the bank moved quickly to address vulnerabilities in its own code and in vendor software, calling the threat a “real risk.”

Moynihan told analysts the bank spent “a couple hundred million plus” in the third quarter on software fixes and separate anti-money-laundering compliance issues. The disclosure is among the first to detail the staffing and spending a major U.S. company has committed to defending its systems against vulnerabilities surfaced by powerful new AI tools.
