AstraZeneca reported positive results from its Phase III CLARITY-Gastric01 trial of sonesitatug vedotin in patients with advanced or metastatic stomach cancer. Presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress, the results showed the antibody-drug conjugate improved overall survival in patients whose tumors express CLDN18.2.

For patients receiving the drug as a third-line or later treatment, median survival was 10.0 months, compared with 5.0 months for chemotherapy.

In the overall trial population receiving second-line or later treatment, median survival was 10.6 months, compared with 6.4 months. Treatment reduced the risk of death by 42% in this population.

The trial did not meet its other primary endpoint: demonstrating a statistically significant delay in disease progression.
