Broadcom faces an official European Union antitrust investigation into its $61 billion acquisition of VMware.

EU regulators launched the probe following formal complaints from customer groups and the Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe (CISPE).

The investigation targets the termination of perpetual software licenses in favor of a mandatory subscription model.

Regulators are also examining substantial price increases and the sudden cancellation of the VMware Cloud Service Provider program.

Critics claim these changes reduce customer choice and threaten to force smaller European cloud providers out of the market.
