The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced Wednesday concerns over The Brink's Company's planned $6.6 billion acquisition of NCR Atleos. The regulator believes the deal could significantly reduce competition in the UK's ATM market. The CMA stated the merger would create the largest ATM deployer in the country. It also noted the deal would diminish competition for ATM deployment, operation, and maintenance services.
The CMA gave Brink's and NCR Atleos until October 7 to offer undertakings addressing these concerns. Insufficient remedies could lead to a Phase 2 investigation. This regulatory scrutiny introduces uncertainty for a major consolidation in the ATM industry.
