Amazon introduced TorchNeuron, an open-source tool that lets developers run code written in the PyTorch framework on its custom Trainium AI chips with minimal or no changes.

The tool aims to lower a barrier to switching from Nvidia hardware, which has often required developers to significantly modify their code. Easier migration could challenge Nvidia’s software advantage, a key factor in its market dominance.

TorchNeuron will be released as a public beta and open-sourced. Amazon is seeking to make its own chips a more viable, cost-effective option for AI workloads, potentially putting pressure on Nvidia’s stronghold in AI computing.
